KLB is a Norwegian DJ trio, founded 2009 and consisting of the members: Daniel ”DJ Nuhhh” Gude, Seth ”Skizzo” Raknes & Erlend ”Skankin Earl” Hanssen.

Kids Love Bass, or; ((( K L B ))) as it also is written with their typographic treatment, has always been about not locking yourself into a specific genre, but venturing into the gray areas of genres like UK Funky, Techno, Afro House, and Dubstep - all of which they are known for. Mainly different electronic genres and dance friendly bass music, which they have supplied to local and national clubs and festivals.

The list of artists they have booked and played alongside emphasizes their versatility in the field. You can find everything from names like Funkineven, Ms Dynamite, Todd Edwards, Bok Bok, Cosmin TRG and Omar S.

Problem

Not owning or running a physical facility by themselves, their position and function was to create and run a club concept that hosted parties at established and/or pop-up venues. Managing the party and hosting as DJ’s, with special guests that headline and set the mood for each event.

Having a wide range of different artists, all with strong identities that become key selling points to reach customers, the club concept takes on a role much like a cultural distribution entity. It needs its own visual voice to communicate the party vibe for each gathering, but with a clear hierarchy of who’s who.

Solution

Most club concepts have been underground movements in any genre, and as DJ’s try to mash new territories and break new ground it can easily become a bit chaotic and “all over the place”. Music doesn't care about borders, it's a universal language of rhythm that aims to join people across all aspects of life. So the common traits of a customer lies centered around the feel any given party delivers, Kids Love Bass was created to celebrate and spread their genuine love for the genre Electronic Bass music and push the scene to local enthusiasts. Some of the keywords they used to describe this genre are: Energic, Uncompromising, Organized Chaos, Dark and Sexy but Dirty.

The Logotype and visuals where created with playfulness and retro vibes fusioned with digital esthetics.

The main logo is a playful interpretation of the three sides that play together and as the iconic rubik's cube (a classic children's puzzle game) their music styles interlock and complete each other thus creating harmony when aligned in the correct order. The three parentheses  on each side of the name symbolizes the trio's love for bass music and is also derived from the three letter name itself.

The usage of strong colors mixed with dark tones set the vibe for promotion and visuals, most marketing was created around thoroughly worked out grids and templates. Using a mixture of clean Sans Serif fonts and icons combined with patterns and custom artwork to promote each party.

The Branding includes logotype, promotional material such as flyers, posters, and social media banners as well as occasional visuals and VJ’ing.
